How to play Chrono Fold

Chrono Fold is an original time-echo puzzle game where you cooperate with recorded echoes of your own past moves to unlock gates and reach the exit. Play instantly in your browser—no download is required.

Objective & controls

Move with Arrow Keys or WASD. Step onto the violet Fold tile to split your timeline — your echo begins replaying every step you took to reach the Fold while you chart a new path forward. The echo unlocks amber gates as it freezes at its final position. Blue pressure plates latch permanently when stepped on, unlocking blue doors. Two-fold levels spawn two echoes working in tandem. Undo the last move with Z and restart with R.

How scoring works

Levels cleared is the primary measure. Total moves is the tie-breaker — reaching the exit in fewer moves than par earns a bonus.

Strategy

Count how many steps it takes to reach the Fold before triggering it. Your echo needs exactly that many steps to arrive and open the gate — so plan your return journey to arrive at the gate no sooner than that step count. On levels with pressure plates, activate the plate before triggering the Fold so the ghost can replay that activation. In two-fold levels, the second echo replays your post-first-fold moves, creating a chain of timed unlocks.

How difficulty grows

The first five levels introduce movement and the basic Fold mechanic. Levels 6–15 add maze routing, plate mechanics and tighter timing. Levels 16–20 introduce the second Fold tile, requiring two simultaneous echoes to cooperate on gates separated across the map. Every level has at least one solution reachable without any wall collision or wasted moves

Improving at Chrono Fold

The useful way to improve is to understand what the game is measuring. In Chrono Fold, the important pressure comes from The first five levels introduce movement and the basic Fold mechanic. Levels 6–15 add maze routing, plate mechanics and tighter timing. Levels 16–20 introduce the second Fold tile, requiring two simultaneous echoes to cooperate on gates separated across the map. Every level has at least one solution reachable without any wall collision or wasted moves. That means repeat runs are not only attempts at a better number: they are opportunities to recognize the decisions that create that number. Use the strategy above as a starting point, then compare your own runs and identify where time, accuracy, moves or survival are being lost.
